As part of an activism campaign against gender violence, United States Ambassador to Peru Lisa Kenna led an expedition to the Mismi mountain in Arequipa region, joined by 10 women survivors of family violence.

Via her official Twitter account, the diplomat called on citizenry and authorities to be vigilant and not to ignore the complaints by women victims of mistreatment and sexual abuse, which also occur during holidays.

"Let us not remain indolent in the face of the numbers of family violence complaints during holiday seasons. I heard the brave stories of women who overcame this hard episode, with the same strength with which we climbed together the snowcapped Mismi in Arequipa," she expressed.

The envoy also thanked each of the young women and Silvia Vasquez Lavado —a mountaineer, activist, and the first Peruvian woman to reach the top of Everest— for accompanying her on this adventure.
