Therefore, technical teams from both countries will meet to define a roadmap and a work schedule.
This was stated after meeting with El Salvadorian Economy Minister Maria Luisa Hayem in the Central American country, where the Peruvian government official arrived to fulfill an intensive working agenda.
"Peru is committed to continuing to expand trade opportunities for companies. This progress with El Salvador, to achieve the signing of a new FTA, is proof that our trade negotiation agenda remains active, and we continue seeking to position our products in international markets, particularly in Central America," Minister Galdo underscored.
As is known, the Salvadoran market is very attractive for micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises from Peru, with important opportunities in sectors such as textiles, food, and construction finishes.
Trade
In 2023, Peru's trade with El Salvador reached US$73 million.
Peruvian exports to the Central American country totaled S$51 million, with the most representative shipments emerging from the chemical (US$19 million), agricultural (US$17 million), and metallurgical (US$5 million) sectors.
On the other hand, imports from El Salvador amounted to US$22 million, with the main imports coming from the following sectors: agriculture (US$15 million), oil-gas (US$4 million), and textiles (US$1 million).
