In a historic event, the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA Peru) signed an agreement with South Korean company HD Hyundai Heavy Industries to build the first four ships for the Peruvian Navy, the President of the Republic Dina Boluarte affirmed.

During the signing ceremony on Tuesday evening, the dignitary explained that the ships to be built at the Navy Industrial Services (SIMA) shipyards include a multi-role ship, an oceanic patrol vessel, and two auxiliary logistics transport units.

In this regard, the Head of State noted that these will be the first units of a large fleet that will strengthen the Peruvian Navy.

"Our sailors will be provided with vessels to maximize patrolling activities so as to combat crimes at sea, strengthen national defense, and provide assistance to Peruvians in the face of emergencies that may arise," Mrs. Boluarte remarked.

"We are consolidating the naval industry. We invite the world to trust and invest in the country and in SIMA Peru the most important shipyard in Latin America," she indicated.

The country's top official underscored that this boost to the naval industry is possible thanks to the work carried out —at the executive level— by professionals at the Ministry of Defense (Mindef), the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF), SIMA Peru, the Peruvian Navy, the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), and private companies.

"Let's keep working together, without allowing ourselves to be distracted by anecdotal events that prevent us from moving forward, which distract a country that continues to grow steadily and properly towards development," she stated.
