The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday afternoon enacted the bill to create the National University of Carabaya in Puno region.

Within this framework, Mrs. Boluarte underscored that this new higher education institution will contribute to the development of Puno and the rest of Peru.

The Head of State explained that the new university will offer programs in economics, accounting, agricultural engineering, environmental engineering, civil engineering, energy resources engineering, human medicine, obstetrics, nursing, and psychology.

"It is a university that will offer the best (programs in) sciences so that Puno and Peru can move forward," she expressed.

The top official also said the new higher education institution should offer mining engineering as a program given that Puno is a region housing large amounts of mining resources.

Mrs. Boluarte announced that although the university will be almost self-managed, the Ministry of Economy and Finance (MEF) will provide an initial budget to boost its operation as promptly as possible.

In this regard, she indicated that the institution will be almost financed with its own self-generated resources, canon, donations, legacies, and whatever is managed with the different government levels.

The president encouraged high school students from Puno and nearby regions not to waste time and prepare for applying and taking the admission exam.

Moreover, she stressed that the Government will not give up on breaking barriers to advance and close gaps, with the aim of establishing high-quality education.

The ceremony marking the enactment of the Law that creates the National University of Carabaya took place at the Government Palace in the Peruvian capital, Lima.

It saw the presence of Cabinet Chief Gustavo Adrianzen, Education Minister Morgan Quero, Carabaya Mayor Edmundo Caceres, among other authorities.
