As her first official activity on Friday,
President Keiko Fujimori took part in the Ceremony Honoring Tacna Women, organized by the Meritorious Mutual Aid Society of Ladies of Tacna at the Women's Plaza.
The ceremony recognizes Tacna women's historical role during the period of Chilean occupation, when they helped preserve and pass on Peruvian identity within their families and communities.
The event included the raising of the National Flag by a member of the Meritorious Society, the singing of the National Anthem, and a minute of silence in memory of the men and women who gave their lives for their homeland.
Likewise, the Head of State and the main authorities laid floral wreaths before the Bust of the Tacna Woman.
The tribute also included a paraliturgy led by the bishop of the Diocese of Tacna and Moquegua, a presentation by Francisco Antonio de Zela Educational Institution, and remarks by a representative of the Meritorious Mutual Aid Society of Ladies of Tacna.
The ceremony concluded with the singing of the Tacna Anthem.
During this first activity, the President was accompanied by Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense), Ernesto Alvarez (Justice and Human Rights), and Alberto Beingolea (Culture).
President continues commemorative agenda
Subsequently, the President will take part in the Solemn Procession of the National Flag, one of Tacna's most representative and moving civic-patriotic events.
It is part of the main activities commemorating the southern city's reincorporation and holds profound historical and identity significance.
The Head of State will also attend the National Flag-Raising Ceremony and Patriotic Civic-Military Parade, which marks the culmination of the events that began with the Flag Procession.
It should be noted that on August 28, 1929, Tacna was officially reincorporated into Peru, in accordance with the Treaty of Lima, signed on June 3 of that year, after remaining under Chilean rule for nearly half a century.
