The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri Ore, stated today that one of the pillars of the country's development in the coming years must be entering a true stage of industrialization.
"We have only preferred to be a country that sells raw materials, without adding value. There are efforts, yes, but it's not just about an industrialization policy; it's also about a regulatory framework that leads to industrialization," he indicated.
He made these remarks during his participation in the meeting "Professional Commitment to the Future of Peru," where he specified that it is important to share a national vision and that the 2050 Plan is a powerful tool for vision, with plans that must be implemented and their progress measured.
“I am fully convinced that one of the pillars of our development in the coming years must be entering an industrial stage. A true industrialization of our country. Although it sounds like a cliché, our country has never truly industrialized,” he asserted.
He noted that this industrialization must be based, for example, on knowing, understanding, and developing each of the regions, which has its own unique characteristics.
“We have not yet reached our full potential as a country. If we are already on the right track with what we have, imagine what we could achieve when we all become aware of this and can fully realize the potential of each region; it would be tremendous,” he said.
A vision for planning
The president also emphasized the importance of having a national vision for planning and anticipating future needs.
In that regard, he said that in the case of the agricultural frontier, it is necessary to consider water reserves, water stress, and anticipate climate phenomena.
He also mentioned that a “crucially important” issue, which is part of the government's vision, is that of national identity and respect and love for patriotic symbols.
“Both issues are fundamental for the government and for education in schools,” he emphasized.
He noted that despite the criticism generated by the decision to raise the flag and sing the national anthem every Monday, for the government it is about working in the present while looking to the future.
“For me, patriotic symbols are important; singing the anthem is fundamental; for me, everything that implies a sense of patriotism is fundamental,” he affirmed.
In a dialogue with the young people participating in this event, the head of state stressed the importance of the National Youth Secretariat's functioning in maintaining a state vision in line with the National Center for Strategic Planning (Ceplan), the cabinets, and the authorities, so as to prevent the country from losing its way.
“As a university representative said, you are agents of change in your fields. And try to replicate what you have received in training. Never keep what you learn to yourself; always share it. That makes us better people and better leaders,” he stated.
Finally, President Jeri said he hopes the next elected authorities will continue addressing matters of state.
