President of the Republic Keiko Fujimori emphasized today that order is being restored and control of the prisons will be reclaimed, stressing that no illegal signals or communications of any kind to the outside world will be permitted.
She made these statements from the Government Palace, during the launch of a simultaneous operation targeting illegal stations and clandestine antennas located in the vicinity of various prisons across the country.
"I want to make one thing very clear: order is being restored, and control of the prisons will be reclaimed. We are taking back control; there will be no illegal signals or communications, as has been the case in recent years. This action will be carried out in all prisons, and there will be ongoing monitoring in every prison nationwide," she stated.
Furthermore, the President highlighted the major operation launched today, noting that it is a team effort involving coordination—utilizing technology and intelligence—and, above all, demonstrating "political resolve."
"It has been known for many years that a large portion of extortion schemes are directed from within the prisons. Through the efforts of the Unified Command, the National Police, and the Armed Forces—combined with the technical expertise of the Ministry of Transport and Communications—we have detected several antennas connected to various stations," she explained.
In this regard, she confirmed that the antennas are being dismantled and that all technological equipment discovered is being seized.
"Operations are currently underway at four prisons, but this process will continue," the Head of State affirmed.
The President emphasized that the operation was conducted in full compliance with the law, supported by judicial orders and the constant presence of prosecutors. Also participating in the review of the operation in the country’s prisons were the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Ernesto Álvarez, and the Minister of Transport and Communications, Ángelo Tangherlini; the President of the Council of Ministers, Luis Galarreta, and the Minister of Defense, Rafael Belaunde, also took part virtually.
