The President of the Republic, Keiko Fujimori Higuchi, lead simultaneous operation against illegal telecom stations located in the vicinity of penitentiary facilities, as part of the Unified Command’s efforts in the fight against crime.
This large-scale, simultaneous operation aims to detect and dismantle clandestine telecommunications stations and antennas that transmit internet signals into correctional facilities.
The objective is to cut off illegal communications in the vicinity of prisons nationwide, thereby strengthening public security through coordinated and ongoing efforts with various state institutions.
"Several prisons are being targeted; we are addressing 48 illegal telecommunications stations and 43 antennas. We also see the Prime Minister and the Minister of Defense at the Army General Headquarters, and here in the office, we have the Minister of Transport and the Minister of Justice," the head of state stated.
"Preliminary work was carried out with teams from the Ministry of Transport to identify the telecommunications signals reaching the prisons. Once these powerful signals—which have facilitated communication inside the facilities—were identified, the necessary formal complaints were filed. Acting under a court order, we are now intervening to take down these antennas—all 48 stations and 43 antennas," added President Fujimori.
During the event at the Government Palace, the head of state was accompanied by the Minister of Transport and Communications, José Angello Tangherlini, and the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Ernesto Álvarez.
