stated on Tuesday afternoon that the christening and launching of the Navy's BAP Chimbote Logistics Supply Auxiliary Ship will strengthen its logistical capacity and the Peruvian State's presence along our coast.
The Head of State said that, in the event of an El Niño phenomenon, the Armed Forces play a fundamental role.
The top official added that Navy vessels will allow water, food, fuel, machinery, and humanitarian aid to be transported to places where the emergency may disrupt land transportation routes.
The President was accompanied on this occasion by Ministers Rafael Belaunde (Defense); Marco Vinelli (Agrarian Development-Irrigation); Luis Dyer (Health); and Navy Commander General Admiral Javier Bravo de Rueda.
"Its capacity to transport cargo, fuel, water, provisions, vehicles, and personnel will strengthen the Peruvian Navy’s logistical capacity and expand the State's presence along our coast," Fujimori stated during the christening and launching ceremony held at SIMA Peru’s Callao Operations Center.
The Head of State noted the launching of this vessel represents not only the deployment of new Navy ships, but also the materialization of a country's potential to "look ahead, strengthen its institutions, and develop its own capabilities to respond to the challenges of the present and the future."
The top official said this development takes on greater importance in emergency situations, such as a potential El Niño phenomenon, in which Peru's Armed Forces play a fundamental role as part of the National Disaster Risk Management System.
Investment worth over S/66 million
In another part of her speech, the President said the construction and operation of the Navy's new vessel represents the strengthening of Peru's domestic industry.
"The construction of these vessels at SIMA Peru's shipyards demonstrates that our country has talent, technical capabilities, and skilled workers prepared to undertake increasingly complex projects," Fujimori stated.
The Head of State announced that the project has enabled the participation of 95 Peruvian companies, mobilized an investment worth over S/66 million (above US$19 million) in the domestic market, generated specialized employment, developed human capital, and promoted a supply chain linked to shipbuilding.
"Therefore, strengthening SIMA Peru also means strengthening employment, innovation, knowledge transfer, and the country's productive capabilities," Fujimori pointed out.
"This means that we are not simply building a vessel; we are building capabilities for the future," she stressed.
