on Saturday affirmed that current circumstances demand the Peruvian Army to provide the conditions for safety and trust that the country requires, not only in the defense of territorial integrity but also in its work in the face of natural disasters.
"The current circumstances demand the Army to be able to provide the conditions for safety and trust that the country requires; this institution generates the need to responsibly foster modernization processes on which you are already working, which is why I express congratulations and the commitment to support by this Government," she indicated.
The Head of State recalled that December 9 was established as Army Day and the Anniversary of the Battle of Ayacucho, which sealed the Independence of Peru and South America.
"On this day, as President and Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces and the (Peruvian) National Police, I convey greetings to all the men and women of the Army; the patriots who fought in Ayacucho showed us that when you act unselfishly, so as to fight for a higher cause, victory is guaranteed, which is why Ayacucho constitutes an example and legacy that over time has materialized in a commitment of honor," she stated.
Likewise, the top official indicated that Army members lived up to this commitment throughout history, "because even in the most difficult situations, they knew how to confront the best prepared and equipped adversary, stoically offering their lives in defense of the homeland's honor."
Moreover, the president indicated that the changes brought by globalization have generated new contexts in which the Army confronts them, since young soldiers continue their preparation to safeguard sovereignty and territorial integrity, as well as to support domestic order. They also work with the police in emergency districts to strengthen citizen security.
Mrs. Boluarte added that they have a disaster risk management task to fulfill, "because our Army participates in an active and timely manner, and they (its members) are ready to provide their caring arm; this year, it (the Army) acquired machinery worth S/137 million (about US$36.54 million) to attend to what happens due to natural phenomena."
This event was held at the Army Headquarters in Lima's San Borja district.
