Peruvian President Pedro Castillo on Tuesday welcomed the work carried out today by State ministers of Peru and Chile —within the framework of the annual Binational Cabinet meeting.

Mr. Castillo affirmed that this effort reinforces the unity between both countries.

After signing the Santiago Declaration together with his Chilean counterpart Gabriel Boric, the Peruvian Head of State stressed that the agreements reached bilaterally during the previous government meeting are being followed up.

"I congratulate the teams that have been working, supporting a work of unity, a very mutual work, a responsible work," Mr. Castillo said in his speech.

In this sense, the top official affirmed that Peru and Chile "are brother nations, and I believe that nowadays it is appropriate to honor history by working together."

Fulfilling the commitments

The President stressed that, at today's gathering, it has been verified that compliance with the commitments adopted at the previous Binational Cabinet meeting —held in the Peruvian city of Paracas— has been accelerated.

"We must follow up to respond to the common enemies we face, to these major social gaps, such as poverty, the major inequalities," he specified.

In this sense, Mr. Castillo affirmed that during the latest meeting "solid foundations have been laid to attend to education, health, and many other sectors."

"Today, you have seen maturity in that work," he stated.

"We understand that countries have to go down that democratic path, respecting human rights, the institutional framework, and being respectful of citizens' perceptions above all," he said.

Moreover, President Castillo urged his Chilean counterpart to work on pending issues related to the migratory field and the full opening of the bilateral border.

Therefore, the Head of State asked stakeholders not to take long to set a date for the meeting of Pacific Alliance countries, which should be held in Lima.

The top official also expressed his desire that the next Binational Cabinet with Chile take place in Peru's northern Andean Cajamarca region, if possible.
