The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Sunday thanked the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) for its support in favor of governance and respect for the will of the people in Peru.

In a post on Twitter, the Head of State expressed his gratitude to his Argentine counterpart, Alberto Fernandez, who currently holds the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC.

"Our region is a democracy, and that is how it must stay," he remarked.

On Saturday, the Pro Tempore Presidency of CELAC expressed its concern over the institutional situation in Peru and emphasized the need to respect the democratic order and the will of the people expressed in favor of President Pedro Castillo.

"As a mechanism for political agreement, CELAC reaffirms its commitment to the democratic processes of the region and will continue to carefully observe the evolution of events in Peru," the organization said in a statement.
