El Salvador's President Nayib Bukele on Thursday congratulated candidate Keiko Fujimori, the virtual winner of Peru's presidential election.

Likewise, he expressed his willingness to continue strengthening the deep ties of friendship, cooperation, and understanding with the South American country, for the benefit of both nations.

"On behalf of the people and Government of the Republic of El Salvador, my wife Gabriela, and myself, I am pleased to extend my most sincere congratulations on your election as President of the Republic of Peru," Bukele said in a letter.

He added that this distinction constitutes an eloquent expression of the trust that the Peruvian people "have placed in your leadership to guide the destiny of that sister nation toward higher levels of prosperity, stability, and well-being."

In that regard, Bukele reiterated El Salvador's firm willingness to continue strengthening the deep ties of cooperation and understanding that have traditionally united both peoples.

"I take this opportunity to extend my best wishes for the success of your administration and for the continued strengthening of the progress and prosperity of the Republic of Peru. Please accept, Madam President-elect, the assurances of my highest and most distinguished consideration," he concluded.
