"The industrialization of the country is a national objective, and we need to bring the naval industry to the entire (Peruvian) territory. We have the responsibility of strengthening the Navy so that this institution, so valuable to all Peruvians, is not only a deterrent armed force but also participates in the national development," Mrs. Boluarte said during the keel laying ceremony for the 7th and 8th maritime patrol vessels in Chimbote, Ancash.
Thus, the Head of State pointed out that the two works will strengthen the naval industry, in addition to generating more than 1,500 jobs that will have a positive impact on Ancash region's economic improvement.
The top official emphasized that the construction of both maritime patrol vessels will be carried out under the most demanding quality standards and international certifications, with the aim of contributing to the decentralization of Peru's maritime industry.
"We have arrived at the Port of Chimbote to begin the construction of Peruvian Navy ships 'Rio Huarmey' (Huarmey River) and 'Rio Nepeña' (Nepeña River); both maritime patrol vessels will be at the service of the homeland, safeguarding national defense, the environment and marine fauna, confronting crimes such as illegal fishing, crime on the high seas, as well as supporting rescue tasks and humanitarian aid distribution," she expressed.
The president added that both works will directly benefit disaster risk management linked to the transportation of personnel, food, and goods to the populations in the coast that could be affected by any natural event.
"My administration is working to build a total of 6 multirole vessels, 3 ocean patrol vessels, and 4 coastal auxiliary units, as well as the 2 units that will begin to be built today, making more than 20 vessels for our Navy," she reported.
Lastly, Mrs. Boluarte called for dialogue and unity in Peru so as to continue undertaking efforts to close gaps, overcoming poverty and extreme poverty, as well as providing equal opportunities and care to all compatriots —especially those who reside in hard-to-reach areas.
