Peru will host the 16th World Forestry Congress to be held in 2027, President Dina Boluarte announced on Thursday.

The top official took the opportunity at the opening of the National Citizen Security Council (Conasec) session in Tarapoto to make the announcement, underscoring the importance of the future event and the confidence in Peru to host it.

"With great pride, I announce that our country was designated today, a few hours ago in Rome, as the host country for the 16th World Forestry Congress, which will take place in 2027," she affirmed.

The Head of State said this is a sign of "the confidence that this government places in Peru, so that the entire world can look at us."

Recognition for Peru

President Boluarte said the election comes "in recognition of our nation's commitment to conservation, the sustainable management of our forests, and the fight against climate change."

"With this designation, Peru is positioned as a global benchmark in biodiversity and reaffirms the results of our administration as the Executive Branch," she stated.

The policy is focused "not only on maintaining a solid economy, which provides clear rules for responsible investments and employment for more Peruvians, but also on showing the world our sustainable forest management policies, our reforestation initiatives, and our will to build a better future in harmony with nature."

The president said the decision to entrust the holding of the meeting was made at the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Assembly currently being held in Rome, Italy.

"The World Forestry Congress is the most important forum in the world in forestry matters," she pointed out.

This conclave "brings together leaders, experts, organizations, and communities from all corners of the planet to discuss the future of forest resources and the essential role of global sustainability."
