The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte has announced that in 2024 commemorative activities will be carried out throughout Peru in order to celebrate the Bicentennial of the Declaration of Independence.

"The 2024 Bicentennial marks a historical milestone for our country, because it reminds us of what was achieved during the battles of Junin and Ayacucho, where patriotic troops consolidated our independence," she said.

"This date provides a great opportunity for all Peruvians to come together and to bring us together for a better country, because hatred, intolerance, and violence lead to nothing," Mrs. Boluarte pointed out.

These remarks were delivered on Sunday evening, during the launch of the 2024 Bicentennial Program of Activities.

Moreover, the Head of State noted that commemorative events will be held throughout Peru next year, placing emphasis on Junin and Ayacucho, due to their historical significance.

"I invite all our compatriots to join these activities, in which our identity will be highlighted and national ties will be strengthened. I call on private companies and civil society to do so," she added.

"We want Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Ecuador, Colombia, Venezuela and other countries in the Americas to join this celebration," the President remarked.

Furthermore, the top official stated that 2024 will leave a legacy of infrastructure works such as the Choquequirao Cable Car in Cusco, the drinking water and sewage system in Juliaca (Puno region), the massive use of natural gas in Apurimac, Ayacucho, Huancavelica, Junin, Cusco, Puno, and Ucayali, as well as the Lima Metro Line 2.
