On International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, the Presidency of the Republic recognized the valuable contribution of the 55 indigenous groups to the identity of Peru.

By highlighting the value of the heritage of 55 indigenous peoples (4 from the Andes and 51 from the Amazon), the Government stated that it will continue building a more inclusive society, free from ethnic and cultural discrimination.

Today marks the International Day of the World's Indigenous Peoples, an observance that was recognized by the United Nations General Assembly in 1994.

Within this framework, Prime Minister Gustavo Adrianzen welcomed the International Day of Indigenous or Native Peoples.

The Cabinet chief called on all Peruvians to recognize the contribution, value, and knowledge of these ethnic groups in Peru.

The Ministry of Culture also joined in this greeting.

The government agency reaffirmed its commitment to continue working for culturally diverse citizens, an inexhaustible source of knowledge and expertise.

From Pucallpa, Culture Minister Leslie Urteaga said that this celebration "calls for continuing to work for the more than 6 million compatriots of the 55 indigenous or native peoples so as to meet their needs."
