The Archbishop of Lima,
Monsignor Carlos Castillo, extended the greetings and blessing of Pope Francis to the Peruvian people on the occasion of the "purple month" —a month-long celebration of the Lord of Miracles.
"The Lord of Miracles will be taken out in procession for the first time since the pandemic began. It provides joy for everyone in Lima, for everyone in Peru!" the Holy Father expressed.
"After having recently met with the Holy Father Francis, so that all Peruvians can grow as a united, just, friendly, and fraternal people, I want to share his message and blessing with you," the prelate announced from Rome to thousands of faithful, who gathered at Las Nazarenas Church on October 8.
Last week, the Holy Father received Archbishop Carlos Castillo in an audience at the Vatican.
During the meeting, the Pontiff expressed his excitement for the Christ of Pachacamilla's return to the streets.
"A special date is approaching, a beautiful day for all of you: the Lord of Miracles will be taken out in procession for the first time since the pandemic began, which provides joy for everyone in Lima, for everyone in Peru!" he said.
"The Lord, who wanders around your town, is nailed to the cross, but he is nailed with mercy nails, and goes out to show mercy. Jesus walks showing mercy, bringing mercy. He looks at each one of us, he looks into our eyes, and he looks into our hearts," His Holiness remarked.
"Also, he says to us: - Do you have sins? I forgive you, just ask me for forgiveness. – Are you sad? I want to enter your heart to join you in your sadness. - Is life hard on you? I understand, because it has been very hard on me," he added.
Thousands of devotees of the Lord of Miracles, who gathered at Las Nazarenas Church to accompany the Sacred Image, heard Pope Francis' greeting.
