Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Monday announced that the relaunch of Peru Model will not only promote alternative development in areas where drug crops flourish, but will allow more families to join the legal economy.

The Cabinet chief made those remarks at the introductory ceremony of the new Executive-President of the National Commission for Development and Life without Drugs (DEVIDA), Carlos Figueroa.

During the event, Otarola explained that DEVIDA will resume its leadership in the fight against drugs.

"The Prime Minister announced the relaunch of Peru Model, which will promote alternative, comprehensive, and sustainable development, and will allow more families to join the legal economy with a positive impact on their community," the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (PCM) wrote on Twitter.

Likewise, the head of the Ministerial Cabinet stressed that DEVIDA's work will be strengthened, mainly in regions where farming families live, through productive diversification.

Moreover, he noted that the work of the national drug control agency will be enhanced at the drug use prevention level with teams of psychologists, through the Habla Franco (Speak Frankly) service.

On January 18, the Government —through the Presidency of the Council of Ministers— formalized the appointment of Carlos Antonio Figueroa Henostroza as DEVIDA's Executive President.

Figueroa assumes said position as the appointment of Emilio Arce de la Torre has been terminated.
