08:00 | Lima, Dec. 11.

A total of 120 disadvantaged —but talented— Peruvians will get the chance to pursue master and doctoral degrees at top-ranked universities around the world.

Grants were awarded by the Peruvian State under the "President of the Republic Scholarship" offered by Peru's National Scholarship Program and Educational Credit (Pronabec).

Each grant covers tuition and fees, flight tickets, food, transport, housing, international medical insurance, study material, among other benefits.

President of the Republic Scholarship rewards holders' academic excellence during higher education and their potential to contribute to the country's development.

"It enables underprivileged bright Peruvians to acquire —through postgraduate studies— state-of-the-art knowledge in their areas of expertise," Pronabec Executive-Director Sandro Parodi explained.

The current administration has restored the scholarship's international status as it now funds studies at any of the top 400 universities around the globe.

Additionally, the number of scholarships available for 2018 was raised from 50 to 120.

According to Parodi, Pronabec has redesigned the scholarship system to provide additional points to recipients who got admission to top 50 universities in the world and those with the highest performance levels during their university years.
