In order to contribute to the strengthening and dissemination of its exportable offer in terms of food and beverages across international markets, Peru participated in the Thaifex 2022 fair, which took place on May 24-28 at the Impact Exhibition Center in the Thai capital Bangkok,
Peru's Exports and Tourism Promotion Board (PromPeru) Executive-President Amora Carbajal reported on Friday.
"Peru returned in person to Thaifex 2022, one of the largest and most important events for the promotion of food and beverages in Southeast Asia," Carbajal expressed.
"The national delegation —which was made up of eight exporting companies and is likely to have generated business deals worth US$2 million— had as its main objectives increasing Peruvian exports, identifying new buyers, and promoting new products, especially in the markets of Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia," she specified.
Our country has participated in this fair since 2012 —with quinoa, blueberries, garlic, ground dressings, maca, olives, and olive oil being some of the products that draw the most interest in this edition.
Carbajal indicated that national exporters had the opportunity to learn about new launches at the international level, as well as assess trends in Thailand and Southeast Asia, thanks to joint efforts undertaken by the
Association of Peruvian Exporters (Adex) and
PromPeru through its Trade Office in Bangkok.
Thailand
Thailand is an important market for Peru by hosting a population of 69 million, which is why the food industry is one of the most important sectors in that country.
It must be noted that Peru has an original protocol in force with this nation, three additional ones since December 31, 2011, and a fourth one that will be activated this year. Thus, it has liberalized 75% of the tariff universe.
Thaifex is the main channel for generating business deals in this sector in the same place.
Similarly, entrepreneurs and professionals in this sector have the opportunity to evaluate new buyers, attend presentations by experts, as well as learn about the main global trends to expand the competitiveness of businesses.
PromPeru has also been working since 2020 on the positioning of the Super Foods Peru brand within the most important markets in Southeast Asia.
As a result of this work, Thailand is the market that makes the largest purchase of Peru's non-mining or energy products.
Within this framework, Thaifex includes several marketing channels within the food and beverage sector including the food services, food, gastronomy, coffee —all of them offering great opportunities to maintain the positioning of our products.
Exports
Cumulative farming sector exports to Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam exceeded US$33 million.
Among the most exported products were fresh grapes, cacao beans, fresh blueberries, avocados, quinoa, vegetable oils, fresh pomegranates, and shelled Amazon nuts.
