Peruvian Blue Helmets contribute to development of African community

11:51 | Bouar (Central African Republic), Feb. 28.

As part of United Nations (UN) Peacekeeping missions, the 9th Contingent of Peru's Engineering Company is carrying out various projects that contribute to the development of the Central African Republic, particularly in the town of Bouar, where several urban development projects have been undertaken.

With the support of heavy machinery, personnel from Peru's Armed Forces carried out clearing, leveling, watering, and soil compaction work for roads where government infrastructure, such as the Ministry of Military Justice, was built.

These new government facilities of the African State were inaugurated on February 7, in a ceremony attended by
UN Secretary-General's Special Representative Valentine Rugwabiza.

She highlighted the work of Peru's Engineering Company in contributing to the community's development and well-being.

Also present at this event were Central African Republic President Faustin Archange Touadéra; Peruvian Blue Helmets 9th Contingent Chief, Engineering Colonel Eduardo Quintana Dolorier; and other local authorities.

These and other missions, such as airfield maintenance and repair, road and highway maintenance, bridge maintenance and repair, explosive deactivation, and minefield clearing, are being carried out by 220 Peruvian Blue Helmets as part of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA).

Currently, Peru participates in various UN Peacekeeping operations, with military personnel serving as military observers, staff officers, and military contingents, in accordance with UN requests, contributing to peacekeeping efforts and special political missions worldwide.
