An emotional encounter between Peruvian representatives and Pope Leo XIV took place at St. Peter's Square, where a group of business leaders and executives from Lambayeque Chamber of Commerce and Production personally delivered a mantle crafted by artisans from Morrope district.

The Peruvian delegation—made up of business leaders and institutional representatives from Chiclayo and led by Gonzalo Sanchez Calderon—took part in the protocol greeting following prior coordination carried out at the Vatican.

During the meeting, the Supreme Pontiff received with special interest the garment made from naturally colored native cotton, one of the most representative textile expressions from northern Peru.

According to participants, upon receiving the mantle, the Holy Father expressed gratitude for the gesture and fondly recalled the work of artisans dedicated to crafting garments from native cotton, highlighting the cultural and traditional value of these ancestral techniques.

The moment was considered significant for the Lambayeque delegation, which harnessed the opportunity to promote Peruvian artisanal talent at one of the most important sites in the Catholic world.

The artisans of Morrope are recognized for preserving traditional weaving techniques and for using naturally colored native cotton, a cultural heritage that has gained national and international recognition for its sustainability and historical value.
