The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Sunday expressed his willingness to work with the next head of Congress —who will be elected on September 12— and called for ending confrontation between the two branches of the Peruvian State.

In a ceremony marking Peruvian Family Day, the Head of State called on the Legislative Branch to approve initiatives in the areas of education, health, and citizen security, since this contributes to providing well-being to families.

"The country needs to know that I will be the first to address the new Chair (of Parliament) to sit down, talk, and look closely at the great family and Peruvian people, in order to create these laws," he said.

On the other hand, the top official pointed out that the Government will continue to explore the country in a bid to identify those families who have no voice, since the State is responsible for providing them with the care they need.

"I want to covey my greetings to families in the most remote areas of the country, to Quechua families, Aymara families, the Konibos, the Shipibos, the Awajun, as well as those who enjoy comforts (...)," Mr. Castillo stated.

"Let's embark on a journey; a journey of solidarity and commitment to the most disadvantaged families in the country," he added.

The ceremony took place at the Government Palace's Courtyard of Honor in Lima on Sunday afternoon. The event also featured Women and Vulnerable Populations Minister Claudia Davila.

Furthermore, the Head of State was accompanied by Peruvian First Lady Lilia Paredes and their two minor children.

Peruvian Family Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of September and was established by Decree-Law No. 23466, on September 16, 1982.
