The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Friday evening reiterated the determination of his Government to act with the greatest transparency and firmness to prevent, detect, and punish acts of corruption that may have occurred in the current administration and also in previous ones.

"We will not allow or protect those who commit acts of corruption. Not surprisingly, one of the 10 axes of our Government's 2021-2026 General Policy is the frontal fight against this scourge," Mr. Castillo expressed.

Remarks were made after leading the signing ceremony of the Cooperation Agreement between the Peruvian Government and the General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) for the fight against corruption.

The Head of State pointed out that the construction of a fair, equitable, and developed country is unfeasible if acts of corruption persist.

He added that economic growth will be of little use if public resources continue being diverted illegally for the benefit of a few.

In this regard, the top official argued that a breaking point against corruption is needed so as to banish once and for all that perverse culture and its practices.

Mr. Castillo welcomed the fact that the OAS accepted the invitation he had issued a few days ago, on behalf of the Peruvian Government, to join and contribute to the fight against corruption in Peru.

The President acknowledged that the task is not easy, since it is necessary to rely, from the State, on effective institutional mechanisms and committed officials, who deliver an upright and honest public service.

In the same way, the collaboration of the private sector and the population is required, he underlined.

Moreover, the Head of State affirmed his administration aspires not to repeat old patterns, but to start a new stage with a country that is free of corruption and fully democratic.
