Peru's President: We seek a justice reform that meets population's demands

The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Tuesday affirmed that her administration, joined by Peruvian State powers and institutions, seek a justice reform that meets the demands of the population and can resolve cases promptly both at Public Ministry and the Judiciary.

Remarks were made after completing the Council for Justice System Reform meeting, where the general progress that has been made in said sector was reviewed.

"(...) Aspiring that from the agreements and work on the timeline that we have proposed today, and with the goals to be met, let's have this justice reform of access for the population, who are the ones that demand greater promptness in the cases that are handled within the Prosecutor's Office and the Judiciary," Mrs. Boluarte said.

The statement was made by the Head of State at the Government Palace Honor Courtyard, where she was joined by the aforementioned Council representatives.

"Thank you for having attended this meeting; we have met again after two years," she added.

The gathering also saw the presence of Prime Minister Alberto Otarola; Judiciary Chairman Javier Arevalo; Attorney General Juan Carlos Villena; and Constitutional Court Chair Francisco Morales.

It also saw the presence of National Justice Board Chairman Antonio De La Haza; Comptroller General Nelson Shack; Ombudsman Josue Gutierrez; and Justice-Human Rights Minister Eduardo Arana.

The Council for Justice System Reform is composed of the President of the Republic; the Attorney General; the heads of Congress, the Judiciary, and the National Justice Board; as well as the Comptroller General and the Ombudsman.

The purpose of this instance of dialogue and consensus is to foster beneficial reforms for the Justice sector, coordinate the execution of policies by members of this system, and also monitor the execution and implementation of measures contained in the reform process.
