The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Friday inaugurated the activities of Central 111, a free and immediate phone line for reporting extortion cases, and underscored that it was the result of an agreement recently adopted by the Citizen Security Council.

"The days of extortion are numbered, and the fight against crime will not stop. We are intensifying it on all fronts," Mrs. Boluarte expressed.

The Head of State noted that, with the inauguration of the aforementioned service, "we are taking a vitally important step in the fight against extortion and kidnapping."

The top official said that through Central 111 "we are telling each compatriot that they are not alone and that they have a way to report" the aforementioned criminal acts.

She assured citizens that the calls will remain confidential, stating that "the police will act immediately for their protection based on them."

"As a Government, we are providing a close response to the population in the face of the issue of extortion, strengthening the (Peruvian) State actions and addressing it with concrete actions," she indicated.

In this regard, the President underscored that the launch of the Central 111 was agreed upon at the latest National Citizen Security Council session.

She explained that it is a free phone line through which extortion-related complaints will be immediately addressed.

Its implementation was achieved through coordinated work by the Ministries of Interior and Transportation-Communications, the Peruvian National Police (PNP), and phone companies.

24 hours a day

Mrs. Boluarte mentioned that this new center is connected to the 105 emergency line, operates 24 hours a day, all year round. It also relies on the necessary infrastructure to receive images, audio clips, and videos that citizens send to substantiate their complaints.

"The operation of this service is linked to the immediate response task force against extortion and all criminal investigation departments of the Police," she noted.

Upon accessing 111 Central, citizens will be guided on what to do when facing extortionists and what measures to take in order to protect their lives.

"We will demonstrate with actions the united effort against this type of crime," Mrs. Boluarte indicated.

"Extortion and contract killings will not defeat us," she added.

In this regard, the President emphasized "our firm commitment to working tirelessly to guarantee our compatriots a safe environment where everyone can live in peace."
