The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Tuesday reported that Telefónica company has expressed its willingness to pay the debt it owes to the Peruvian State.

According to the Head of State, that money will be invested in sectors such as health and education.

"I would like to salute such an important company which to this day has owed the country, I mean Telefónica. Less than 24 hours ago we had a direct call saying that the company is willing to pay the debt to the Peruvian people so as to invest in health and education," Mr. Castillo detailed.

"It is good that companies side with the country. Although we all use the phone service, they are aware that they owe the country, and today they are willing to pay their debt; those cents will not end up in the President's pocket, but (they will be spent) to pay the debt to the historically-neglected people," he added.

There, the top official reiterated that the Government's General Policy includes meeting the country's major demands in sectors, such as health, education, and agriculture, among others. Therefore, the unity of all Peruvians is required, he underlined.

As Mr. Castillo noted, it will not be possible to move forward if useless confrontations continue, which are not good for Peru. Thus, he insisted on his call on Congress members and other authorities to jointly put an end to domestic problems such as citizen insecurity and corruption.

"We are firm in moving the country forward, in granting the people the corresponding budget, money that must be invested up to the last cent in favor of the people. Development must be achieved with the brothers who ask for job opportunities," he added.

Moreover, he announced that the Council of Ministers will address the unlocking of projects, in order to generate employment supported by public works that will remain at the service of the population.

In turn, the Telefónica company indicated in a statement its greatest willingness to resolve a dispute it has with the Peruvian State on tax issues and will respect what the competent authorities stipulate on the matter.
