The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday reaffirmed her Government's support for the economic empowerment of women, so that they can increasingly participate in Peru's productive and economic activities.

Mrs. Boluarte noted that efforts will be boosted in this regard during the upcoming Peruvian Presidency of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum.

During her participation in the Women's Economic Empowerment meeting —held in the United States within the framework of the APEC Leaders' Week— the Peruvian Head of State gave account of the mechanisms that have been developed to fulfill this objective.

"The economic empowerment of women is a crucial element to achieve gender equality and contribute to the eradication of poverty," she expressed.

In this sense, the top official announced that during the time that Peru presides over APEC, starting next year, guidelines will be promoted in favor of women's inclusion into the economy.

These will include co-responsibility between women and men in domestic tasks, access to information technologies, financial inclusion, gender violence prevention, and the differentiated impact of climate change on women, she specified.

President Boluarte announced that Peru will organize a joint meeting of Trade and Women Ministers of this bloc —within the framework of the APEC Peru 2024 Summit.

This gathering will serve to identify initiatives that encourage greater participation of enterprises run by women in international markets and value chains, she pointed out.

During her speech, the Head of State mentioned the intersectoral measures that her administration is developing in favor of women. These include the Women Entrepreneur Strategy aimed at promoting the development of capabilities and access to every level of economic activity by this sector of the population.

Moreover, Mrs. Boluarte reported on the implementation of the Domestic Care System for the Development of Society and the Functioning of the Economy, whose objective is to counteract the unequal distribution of working time between men and women.

She also said that an advisory committee for financial inclusion of women has been created that will establish mechanisms to empower them.
