The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Monday highlighted that more than 60% of students returned to face-to-face classes with great joy today after two years of virtual learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Head of State also estimated that all students will be back in classrooms by March 28, within the framework of the start of the 2022 school year.

“In this crusade for the return to face-to-face classes, we see that children, the children of the people, of the brothers in native communities, are already in their classrooms. Teachers have been ready since this morning to receive them,” he said.

Remarks were made as he participated in a ceremony marking the start of the School Year at Educational Institution No. 0276 Jesus Lopez Mori, located in the native community of Nauta, in the district of San Jose of Sisa, in San Martin region.

He affirmed that education is not only a responsibility of the Government, teachers, or local and regional authorities, but it is a shared responsibility. Therefore, he reiterated his call to citizens to join the national crusade for the return to classes.

The country's top official said that he was glad to see children happy during their return to school and to see how they engage with their classmates and teachers.

"I thank parents who have taken up this challenge and I tell teachers across the country that ensuring a productive school year is in their hands," he said.

The President emphasized that children must learn in adequate conditions, be well fed and be provided a safe environment. Therefore, he urged authorities to address the problem of crime and create the conditions for public works to hire locals.
