The President of the Republic, Jose Jeri, has announced that the National Citizen Security Plan has been finalized and will be presented this Thursday during a new session of the National Citizen Security Council.

"On Thursday, the plan will be presented to the National Citizen Security Council, which must review and approve it. Some adjustments may eventually be proposed, but the key point is that we will have an updated and valid instrument grounded in reality, enabling us to continue confronting citizen insecurity," he stated.

Within this framework, the top official reaffirmed that his government's main objective is to restore peace of mind to the population, underscoring a firm commitment to guaranteeing citizen security and reclaiming calm on the country’s streets.

"My focus in recent days—and throughout the time I hold this office—has been to sustain this effort. It is not an easy task and requires constant work, but we are making progress in the fight against crime," he emphasized.

Likewise, the top official said the government will not limit itself in adopting the necessary measures, invoking its autonomy and sovereignty, in order to restore calm across the country.

SUNIR and actions in prisons

President Jeri explained that the plan includes related initiatives, such as those linked to the National Superintendence of Internment and Resocialization, aimed at correcting excesses committed in penitentiary facilities and ensuring respect for the principle of authority.

"The vast majority—and I appeal to that vast majority of workers who previously belonged to the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) and who are now part of SUNIR—are committed individuals. Since the good ones outnumber the bad, we must commit to removing those bad elements," he indicated.

The Head of State specified that not all prisons are equipped with signal jammers due to difficulties in implementing contracts.

Likewise, the top official stressed that one of SUNIR’s objectives is to clear bureaucratic and administrative hurdles in order to ensure the installation of antennas in all penitentiary facilities.

"The technological component must be reviewed as well, but beyond that, we must ensure that signal blocking operates consistently and effectively," he pointed out.

State of emergency and mega operation

The remarks were made during a visit to the police station in Lima's Santiago de Surco district, where authorities presented the results of the Mega Territorial Control Operation carried out on February 9.

Thanks to the powers granted under the state of emergency, criminal gangs were dismantled.

Similarly, firearms, explosives, knives, and drug shipments—including marijuana and PBC—were seized, among other illicit items.

"I commend the work carried out by the Peruvian National Police, regardless of the hour, as well as the commitment it has shown since day one to combating citizen insecurity. Results are being delivered on a daily basis. Whether they are few or many is for the citizenry to judge, but the fact is that tangible results are recorded every day, such as those presented today," he emphasized.
