The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday announced the declaration of the state of emergency in the district of Jose Leonardo Ortiz, located in Chiclayo province.

The Head of State verified the local problems such as the lack of rubbish collection services, citizen insecurity, as well as the poor condition of roads and sidewalks, among other things, after visiting different streets of the above-mentioned district.

During his visit, the top official listened to the population's demands and called on local authorities, as well as the regional governor, to hold a meeting with the aim of proposing an agenda that allows them to solve the problems both in Jose Leonardo Ortiz and across the region.

"It is our duty to verify —in situ— what our authorities are doing," he pointed out.

Moreover, Mr. Castillo mentioned that the Council of Ministers is considering to reward the cleanest cities in the country.

For his part, Jose Leonardo Ortiz's Mayor Wilder Guevara welcomed the Executive Branch's decision to declare his jurisdiction in a state of emergency.

In addition, he noted that it was time that the President of the Republic looked towards his district and offered specific solutions.

During the activity, the President was accompanied by Vice-President Dina Boluarte, Prime Minister Anibal Torres, and Housing Minister Geiner Alvarado.
