The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Sunday called for national unity to move Peruvians away from a polarized day-to-day approach and to make them part of the commitment to carry out a national agenda.

During a solemn session marking the 93rd anniversary of Tacna's reincorporation into Peru, the Head of State affirmed that Tacna people persisted with their love for the homeland and left a lesson of what can be achieved when Peruvians unite under the same flag and goal, which ensures the well-being of all.

"That union is what we need today more than ever," he said.

"Today, in my capacity as President and citizen, I call for national unity to move us away from a polarized day-to-day approach and to make everybody involved, looking at the flag and the commitment to work for the national agenda without losing heart," the dignitary said in his speech.

After noting that the Government is committed to the development of Tacna, Mr. Castillo insisted on summoning Peruvians to fulfill the urgent task of building a united, fairer country with opportunities and social development.

"Let us look at the future with optimism and the typical courage of just causes, with the sense of unity and patriotism that distinguishes Tacna from others," he added.

On the other hand, the President of the Republic expressed his commitment to speed up the project to improve the historic personal library of Tacna-born historian Jorge Basadre.

Likewise, the top official announced that he will promote a rule to make it compulsory for schools and institutions to sing the national anthem every Monday.
