The President of the Republic, Jose Maria Balcazar, on Wednesday participated in the launch ceremony for the Peruvian State's Indigenous and native language access and assistance tools.

At this event, the Head of State highlighted the Government's role in promoting the protection of Peru's Indigenous languages.

During his speech, the top official underscored that their teaching should be promoted at schools, universities, and other higher education institutions so students feel proud of Peruvian traditions.

In addition, he said that with the use of these communication tools, "we are on the right and precise path" toward integrating the country's diverse communities.

"With this program that we are launching, we will achieve not only the preservation of native languages, but it will also allow us to build a sense of Peruvian identity and unite all of us as Peruvians," Balcazar underscored.

The President explained that efforts must continue to study and promote national identity in order to build a strong homeland aligned with modern times through the use of technology.

Access and assistance tools in Indigenous languages

Among the Peruvian State's Indigenous language access and assistance tools presented were the IRTP web portal dedicated to native languages and the toll-free 1812 line of the Indigenous and Native Languages Interpretation Service.

Specifically, the IRTP Indigenous languages website will provide informational, audiovisual, and cultural content in Quechua and Aymara.

The browsing experience is designed for speakers, specialists, and people interested in learning these languages.

Meanwhile, the 1812 line is a free telephone service available 24 hours a day. It will allow public institutions to access specialized interpreters to communicate with speakers of Indigenous and native languages, especially in areas such as healthcare, justice, security, and citizen assistance.

The ceremony was attended by Culture Minister Fatima Altabas, the chairwoman of the National Institute of Radio and Television of Peru (IRTP), among other guests.
