The President of the Republic Dina Boluarte on Thursday announced that her administration is committed to generating a boost to municipal projects through competitive funds budget, with the aim of meeting local governments' demands.

"My Government is committed to generating a boost to the development of municipal projects through the competitive funds budget such as the Invest Fund for Territorial Development (FIDT). In 2024, S/150 million (about US$38.75 million) will be allocated to this fund that will lead to meeting the demand of local governments," she stated.

In this regard, the Head of State specified that the presentation of proposals and their appropriate execution are essential "for this fund to fulfill its objective of contributing to the reduction of gaps and generating an increase in productivity with a territorial approach."

The top official underscored that at this meeting participants will be able to analyze directly the projects, without intermediaries but along with ministers and municipalities' technical teams, reaffirming their "firm and determined support for the fulfillment of the commitments by their administrations."

"We have firmly decided that this support shall have several components; first of all, a historic budget for subnational governments in 2024, including a 17% increase, which means an additional S/4.9 billion (about US$1.26 billion) to the budget they had (already been allocated)," she indicated.

Moreover Mrs. Boluarte announced that work is being done on compensation for the cut in canon, as well as on analyzing the Municipal Compensation Fund (Foncomun), so as to rely on a better distribution mechanism that leads to increasing resources for the administrative functioning of municipalities.

"Therefore, I have instructed the Ministry of Economy and Finance to address this clamor, and so that in 2024 we can generate this long-awaited change," she stated.

The president also pointed out that the I Municipal State Council is an example of the "firm commitment to decentralization and to deep Peru."

"We want this meeting to mark a before and after in our relationship at work with you," she added.
