The execution of Chavimochic Irrigation Project's third stage will generate more than 150,000 new jobs in northern La Libertad region, President Dina Boluarte announced on Friday.

After signing the accord by which contract negotiations between Peru and Canada for the implementation of said project begin, Mrs. Boluarte stated that "it will bring development, progress, and of course, the country's growth."

This stage will foster the creation of an agro-exports hub in northern Peru.

She added that it will entail a total investment of US$750 million.

The top official said the execution of Chavimochic's third stage will incorporate 63,000 new hectares into local agriculture.

"We will continue betting on the north," she expressed.

The Head of State indicated that Chavimochic Project's reactivation is part of her government's policy of unblocking (public) works which had been "abandoned due to corruption."

The signing of the above-mentioned document took place in the town of Palo Redondo, Chao district, Viru province.

This event saw the presence of some State ministers and Canadian Ambassador to Peru, Louis Marcotte.

Citizen security

Later, President Boluarte pointed out that concrete actions are being taken in Trujillo and Pataz, La Libertad region localities declared in emergency due to citizen insecurity.

In the first case, the top official said special operations by specialized police groups have been arranged in those five districts most affected by crime.

In Pataz, four police camps will be set up on the outskirts of the premises of the same number of companies dedicated to mining activities. In them, 50 police agents will monitor entrance to said facilities.

The president also expressed gratitude to La Libertad Region Governor Cesar Acuña.

Moreover, she said the Executive Branch plus local and regional governments carry out "honest, transparent, and articulated work" in this area of Peru.
