The President of the Republic Pedro Castillo on Thursday affirmed that he expects Congress to approve the Public Sector Budget Bill for Fiscal Year 2022, which exceeds S/197 billion (over US$49.25 billion), noting that it has a clear social and decentralist approach.

The Head of State recalled that the budget prioritizes the response to the current public health emergency and health care.

His remarks were delivered during a ceremony marking the start of the construction works of a new hospital in Castrovirreyna province (Huancavelica region).

Likewise —he said— it favors integration, education, the strengthening of agriculture, the alleviation of poverty, as well as the promotion of employment and productivity.

In addition, the country's top official called on legislators to sit down to talk and put aside the useless confrontation because it causes damage to the nation, for example, to teachers and students who expect to return to in-person classes.

"We are convinced that members of Congress will do likewise because most of them are provincial people like us, and I hope they will be on the side of the country's major needs," he stated.

During his visit, the Peruvian leader reiterated the Government's commitment to timely and quality health care for all, as well as to building a new health system, "a solid system with efficient and decentralized structures," in order to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

He also reaffirmed that the doors of the ministries are open to local and regional authorities, so as to find solutions to their problems.
