The government is committed to providing conditions and protection for presidential candidates during the campaign period, while guaranteeing free and transparent elections, Prime Minister Ernesto Alvarez Miranda stated.

The high-ranking official emphasized that one of the government's main priorities—alongside achieving political and economic stability in Peru—is ensuring free and transparent elections.

"The government is committed to providing all necessary support so candidates can freely and transparently request citizens' votes and trust," he told Andina News Agency.

The Cabinet chief added that security for the presidential candidates participating in the April 12 elections has already been guaranteed.

Alvarez explained that this protection cannot be extended to all candidates running for the Chamber of Senators and the Chamber of Deputies, as they number in the thousands and doing so would hinder the government's ability to serve the citizenry.

"Yes, presidential candidates have a reasonable level of protection, given that this phase is expected to conclude by mid-April. (Afterwards), security will be maintained only for the two candidates who advance to the runoff," he pointed out.

The Prime Minister added that the government is providing the necessary support to electoral authorities so they can carry out their work.

"Unfortunately, our country operates under a very tight budget framework, but the minister of Economy and Finance has committed to funding each stage the electoral process must go through," he said.

The Prime Minister also stated that the government remains in constant coordination with the National Office of Electoral Processes (ONPE) and the National Elections Board (JNE).

Furthermore, Alvarez noted that agreements are being signed with international entities such as the European Union to ensure the presence of electoral observers.

"Not only with the European Union; the aim is to ensure the presence of observers from a range of international organizations," he pointed out.
