Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Tuesday emphasized the Government's support for private investment in mining and highlighted that the current administration is looking forward to developing sustainable projects with respect for the environment.

"We are looking forward to developing sustainable projects with full respect for our environmental standards," he said after his speech at Perumin 36 Mining Convention held in the southern city of Arequipa.

Moreover, the Cabinet chief expressed his support for private investment in mining which, he said, is highly important for the macroeconomic stability of the country.

"We all know the importance of mining to Peru," he stated.

Otarola reiterated that the Government will focus on supporting and unlocking nine large mining projects, which represent an investment portfolio of US$10.555 billion, as he said during his presentation before the Congress' plenary session last January.

The prioritized projects include Toromocho, Yanacocha Sulfides, Antamina Expansion, Inmaculada Optimization, Zafranal Deposit, San Gabriel Project, Rio Seco Copper Plant, Yumpaq Project, and Retamas Expansion.

Likewise, he stressed the importance of the Digital Single Window, which will be included in the next Council of Ministers session, to optimize and facilitate the procedures for mining permits.

On the other hand, the Prime Minister called for the unity of all Peruvians in order to fight citizen insecurity.
