Peru's PM confirms resignation of Ana Cecilia Gervasi as Foreign Affairs Minister

Peruvian Prime Minister Alberto Otarola on Monday afternoon confirmed the resignation of Ana Cecilia Gervasi from the post of Foreign Affairs Minister.

Moreover, he mentioned that the new head of the Foreign Affairs sector will be sworn in within the next few hours or on Tuesday.

At a press conference, Otarola thanked Gervasi for her work, noting that she is a professional who defends democracy and Peru in all international forums.

"She tendered her resignation letter today and expressed gratitude for the efficient management of said sector. She is a professional person who rose to the occasion," he told the press.

According to different media outlets, Gervasi presented her resignation letter on Monday, expressing her deep gratitude to the Head of State for having appointed her as head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In the document, the former State minister highlighted the achievements that her administration achieved, such as the repositioning of the country in integration processes such as the Andean Community, the Pacific Alliance and the next Presidency of APEC in 2024.

"Likewise, her administration has strengthened our relations with countries across the region and oriented Peru towards Asia and Europe," reads the document released by the media.

"Having closed this cycle, I submit to you, Mrs. President, my resignation from the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs. I will continue to collaborate with you and with Peru by performing my duties in my capacity as a career diplomatic official," the document says.
