indicated that Peru needs to grow, economically speaking, and generate job opportunities for the population.
Thus, the Tia Maria mining project, to be developed in the country's southern Arequipa region, will contribute enormously by allowing for the comprehensive development of Tambo Valley.
"This project will generate thousands of jobs during its construction phase, in addition to contributing percentage points to the GDP of Arequipa and (the rest of) Peru," Mucho emphasized.
"But I say to the entire population: the goal is not just Tia Maria; the goal is the comprehensive development of Tambo Valley, combating poverty, and transforming it into an exporting valley," he noted.
The government official pointed out that Tia Maria project's relevance also lies in the boost it will provide to other pending mining projects, contributing to the generation of resources aimed at closing gaps in access to various basic services for the population.
The Cabinet member stressed that mining activities conducted responsibly, in a sustainable manner, do not pollute the environment. In fact, they coexist with agriculture and strengthen this economic activity.
Likewise, Mucho indicated that responsible mining nowadays meets strict standards, utilizes renewable energies, and recirculates water —to name a few examples.
