00:30 | Cusco (Cusco region), Aug. 4.
With the aim of optimizing the on-site purchase process for entry tickets to the
Llaqta of Machu Picchu, the
Ministry of Culture, through the
Decentralized Directorate of Culture in Cusco (DDC Cusco), implemented a new sales system as of August 1.
The government agency reminded visitors that the daily entry limit to the Llaqta of Machu Picchu during high season is 5,600 guests.
Of that total,
4,600 tickets are sold online through the official platform www.tuboleto.cultura.pe, while the remaining 1,000 are reserved for on-site sales at the Machu Picchu Pueblo Cultural Center.
Pre-ticket system removed
The Ministry of Culture stated that, under this new protocol, the sale of the 1,000 in-person entry passes will be conducted directly, without prior distribution of pre-tickets.
Visitors may go in person to any of the five ticket windows set up at the Cultural Center —one of which is for preferential service— to purchase their entry passes in a more streamlined and orderly manner.
Opening hours and payment methods
The ticket office is open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., or until the 1,000 daily entry passes are sold out. Payment can be made by credit or debit card, QR code (Yape or Plin electronic wallets), or in cash (Peruvian soles), offering guests a range of convenient options.
More staff and real-time availability display
To further streamline the process and enhance service, the number of on-site staff has been increased, and a real-time display system has been implemented to allow visitors to see how many tickets are still available before queuing.
Once the daily on-site ticket quota is sold out, service will be suspended until the following day.
The Ministry of Culture recommends that tourists plan their trip in advance and stay informed through official institutional channels to ensure an organized and enjoyable experience at the Inca citadel.
With this measure, the Culture sector reaffirms its commitment to continue working decisively toward a modern, transparent, and orderly system for visitor access to the Llaqta of Machu Picchu in order to protect the integrity of our world heritage site while ensuring safe, efficient, and equitable access for all.
