Justice and Human Rights Minister Eduardo Arana asked authorities to fulfill their constitutional and legal role of combating crime and citizen insecurity together with the Executive Branch.

"From here we plead, exhort, demand that authorities fulfill their constitutional and legal role of combating, together with the Executive Branch, in this fight that we have initiated against crime and against citizen insecurity," he said.

Likewise, the minister mentioned that the Executive Branch has introduced some important regulations that contribute to combating the scourge of crime, in addition to the actions carried out by public defense agencies and the Peruvian National Police (PNP).

However, he noted that it was necessary to express the Government's concern and protest over the release of criminals, who return to the streets a few hours after being captured by the PNP.

"There are areas of justice over which the Executive Branch has no control, such as the Public Ministry and the Judiciary; so, we can see, bemused, how criminals are immediately placed in the hands of the Prosecutor's Office or justice actors, and a few hours later, inexplicably, go to the streets to commit crime," he stressed.

In this regard, Arana found these situations inexplicable, adding that he certainly believes that supervisory bodies within the Public Ministry and the Judiciary should take action.

These remarks were delivered at a press conference following the Council of Ministers session on Wednesday.
