Interior Minister Alfonso Chavarry on Saturday clarified that citizens do not require permits to hold peaceful protests in the midst of the current
state of emergency in Metropolitan Lima and Callao region valid for a period of 45 days.
The high-ranking official mentioned that as part of its functions the National Police of Peru (PNP) works to prevent possible acts that could alter public order and security during demonstrations, in order to protect citizens.
Minister Chavarry stated that police personnel are trained to act professionally, while respecting human rights.
In this sense, he called on those who plan to participate in demonstrations to do so in a peaceful manner, without causing violence or disturbances so as not to affect other people's rights.
Moreover, he indicated that the serious work of the National Police of Peru (PNP) allows the institution to protect people who go out to march, while safeguarding public and private property.
In this sense, the general commander also asked citizens hold their protests in a peaceful manner.
