Health Minister Oscar Ugarte has highlighted the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine's arrival in the country, noting that it has generated hope among health workers and citizens who are inoculated.
Remarks were made within the framework of the virtual panel "Bicentennial Dialogues: I Lend the Shoulder."
A series of reflections about the COVID-19 vaccination process —initiated by the Peruvian State— were proposed during his participation in the virtual panel.
The event took place on April 26 and was streamed on the Facebook page of Bicentenario Peru (Peru's Bicentennial).
Additionally, the activity created a space for reflection on what the COVID-19 pandemic means in contemporary history and how it has generated a new geopolitical situation, in which immunization with vaccines is the shortest-term objective of all countries.
In Peru, the recent arrival of vaccines has been an act of overwhelming hope. However, adverse currents of opinion —linked to denialism and political interests, but also to disbelief about the State's effectiveness in an uncertain scenario— have emerged.
The Bicentennial —in the current context— requires us to think of a new beginning of unity, as citizens who are aware of the need to reflect on the path they have taken, so as to assume new commitments in the search of new freedoms.
The arrival of the COVID-19 vaccine in the country is materialized as such freedom and opportunity that will allow us to reach and transcend the Bicentennial as a nation that strengthens its identity, which is known to be diverse and that —after the crisis— will transform and lay the foundations for integrating, democratic, and inclusive development.
