Peruvian chef Gaston Acurio received the Prince Claus 2009 Award, in a ceremony held last night at the Netherland's Ambassador residency in Lima.

The world-renowned chef said that he will donate the 25,000 euro prize (some US$ 35,000) to four educational projects on Peruvian gastronomy.

“This is not an award for Gaston Acurio, but for all the Peruvian gastronomy, that belongs to all Peruvians, and for everyone who work to make our gastronomy improve all Peruvian's lives. So it has to be distributed among the ones who work on this cause,” he remarked.

According to a Lip.com report, he detailed that US $10,000 will be used to buy all the required kitchenware of the new cooking school of San Andrés, Pisco, that will open in January.

Another US $10,000 will be used in the new oriental cook section of the Pachacutec Cooking Institute, and a similar amount will be destined to the production of a documentary about the Peruvian ají.

Another US $6,000 will cover the expenses of Pachacutec's best student scholarship, who will travel along Peru during six months to learn about regional cuisine.Acurio said that he will donate the 25,000 euro prize, some US $35,000, to four educational projects on Peruvian gastronomy.
