15:14 | Lima, Aug. 2.

Foreign Affairs Minister Hector Bejar on Monday affirmed that the continuity of the fight against COVID-19 and integration will be essential to his administration.

"We will continue what the previous administration did. In fact, we are going to deepen and strengthen it (…). The key is the pandemic and the fight against it. Besides, our work will focus on integration as part of such fight," Bejar stated.

The high-ranking official noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contributed to international negotiations for the supply of COVID-19 vaccines, adding that his administration will continue and scale up such efforts.

The inauguration of the new Government coincides with the end of a pandemic cycle and the beginning of another, which may be very dangerous for the population.

According to the minister, the immunization of the most remote populations is a priority in this new wave.

He also mentioned that human rights, integration, and the fight against the pandemic will all be essential elements of his administration.

"I have said that our policy will be open, democratic, and based on the comprehensiveness of human rights," the Cabinet member expressed.

Remarks were made on Monday after the ceremony marking the transfer of power.
