In the face of seasonal rains reported in various parts of the country, the Government has responded to each of the emergencies that have been notified, which so far total eight, Defense Minister Jorge Chavez Cresta said on Monday.

Moreover, the government official affirmed that scientific entities continue monitoring the eventual arrival of El Niño phenomenon.

"The response to each of the emergencies, which at this time total eight, has been notified since Saturday, in your presence [the media]," he said at a press conference held after a new Council of Ministers session.

Chavez Cresta underlined that the risk scenarios that are occurring in the country are caused by rains typical of the season.

One of the emergencies is that of the Balsapuerto district, in the province of Alto Amazonas, Loreto region. The Executive Branch declared a state of emergency in Yurimaguas, to promptly assist the families affected by the increase in the flow of rivers.

Emergencies caused by rainfall have also been reported in the regions of Huanuco, San Martin, Pasco, and Lima, in the latter case because of the growth in the flow of Rimac River.

The minister pointed out that two risk areas have been identified in Lima's San Martin de Porres district flowing the rise of Hablador River.

Families in one of the above-mentioned areas have already been evacuated, through the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation; while the same will be done in the other area, in coordination with local authorities.

Likewise, the Cabinet member underscored that water level in Chillon River has risen, which makes it necessary to strengthen bridges.

Arrangements have been made with the Ministry of Transportation and Communications, as well as with local authorities, in order to find a solution in the coming days.
