Peru's Defense Min: Actions initiated to ensure Oil Pipeline operations

Defense Minister Walter Astudillo on Thursday affirmed that actions have begun to guarantee the proper functioning of Oleoducto Norperuano (Northern Peruvian Oil Pipeline), in coordination with the Ministries of Economy-Finance (MEF) and Energy-Mines (MINEM), as well as with the State-run company Petroperu.

The government official specified that, following supervision in the area joined by the Petroperu chairman, it was agreed to designate multisector teams, along with the three institutions, to craft a strategy that ensures full operation of the pipeline.

"Petroperu's board chairman expressed the importance of security and emphasized that, despite having infrastructure such as the oil pipeline, State assistance was needed to ensure the service demanded by the country," Astudillo indicated.

"When the Armed Forces are called upon, we are at the service of the (Peruvian) State. Last week, along with Petroperu (officials), we went to the area and saw that our participation must be effective in providing security and achieving the country's development," he added.

Civic actions

Th Cabinet member said the Armed Forces not only fulfill their constitutional role of ensuring national sovereignty defense but also support national development, provide assistance for order restoration and disaster risk management.

Within this framework, Astudillo pointed out that to date he has carried out numerous civic actions which have benefited 250,000 people, who were reached out to by healthcare services and social programs, including the participation of all sectors.

In remarks to TVPeru, he said that reaching 1,000,000 beneficiaries through civic actions is expected by the end of 2024.

Moreover, Astudillo reported that the Defense sector is focused on preparing the Independence Holidays parade, which aims to strengthen the sense of nationhood.
