Peru's 2026 Elections: 487 international observers to oversee Sunday's vote

A total of 487 observers from international organizations and cooperating institutions are accredited for the General Elections on Sunday, April 12, National Elections Board (JNE) Cooperation and International Relations General Office Director Jose Alfredo Perez Duharte reported.

They are part of electoral observation missions that will be deployed nationwide.

The official specified that 408 observers correspond to 30 international organizations accredited in the country, while 79 individuals provide support to accredited personnel from cooperating diplomatic missions.

Regarding domestic organizations, he specified that Civil Association Transparencia accredited 3,675 observers.

Perez Duharte emphasized the importance of the observers' presence in Peru, noting that it guarantees transparency and legitimacy.

"It ensures that everything carried out during the electoral process unfolds in line with international standards and through appropriate channels," he pointed out.

The European Union Election Observation Mission (EU EOM) will have more than 150 electoral observers deployed nationwide.


This is complemented by a short-term mission comprising 50 observers, who were deployed last Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the Organization of American States (OAS) Electoral Observation Mission will be led by Victor Rico Frontaura.

It includes a technical team of more than 90 observers and specialists from 22 countries.
